Dream, 7 July 2001

I dreamt about a few interesting things last night that I can't quite recall clearly. One was about being at some sort of party in a large, open-constructed house; one was about being on some beach, where the rocks I collected from under the water were like bits of painted pottery.

The one I remember most clearly was about watching someone assist a dog in birthing her puppies. This dream was pretty odd. I remember being very excited to have the opportunity to watch puppies being born, as I'd never seen anything like that before. I arrived in time to see a woman delivering one of the puppies and found it fascinating. The weird thing, though, was that the puppy's head was open at the top, exposing its brain. Even odder was that the woman scooped out the brain and rinsed it off in a dish of water.

When I wondered why she would do such a thing, it appeared that it had something to do with a kind of disease, or perhaps a parasite. After replacing the brain in the puppy's head, she pressed on the belly of the mama dog to help another one emerge. Like the first puppy, this one had an exposed brain and the woman removed it and rinsed it off. I watched more closely this time, and I saw that the minute the brain touched the water, some yellowish stuff immediately detached from the brain tissue and shriveled a bit. Really odd. I guess the stuff was easily dissolved in water, or it preferred water over brain tissue. Regardless, it was kind of creepy to watch.

She put the brain back where it belonged, and the puppies seemed none the worse for the experience. I never really got an explanation of why the heads were open at the top or why the brains needed rinsing. That's about all I can remember.
