Britt's story

I had a BayBank/BankBoston/Fleet account for 4 years. When I graduated and moved out of MA. I went to close the account, that happened all nice and good, they gave a cashiers check and I left for NC. 1 month later I get a forwarded bank statement showing my zero balance account with activity on it, which of course was getting paid for from my reserve credit. Apparently nobody at fleet can tell the BankBoston HomeLink people when an account closes, so they keep doing monthly activities if you have them setup (I was sending money to an IRA automatically). This happens on the first of the month, and due to mail forwarding slowness, i don't find out until this has happened 3 times, so I'm stuck with interest, account fees, and late penalties on the reserve account. Ugh.

So I call, and am told that it's all my fault and I should have known that they wouldn't really close my account. I bitch, and get hung up on. I called the next day and got a much nicer person who said if I send a letter listing the different costs, they would refund all fees and interest (there was no way I was going to try and get the money back from my IRA).

I've sent the money, and hopefully they'll close it all up.

Fleet sucks.
