Todd's story

Today, I closed all of my Fleet bank accounts, and nixed my Fleet credit card. The best part of the day was canceling the credit card, where I got to have this conversation:

"Fleet Credit Card Services, how may I help you?"

"Hi, I'd like to cancel my credit card account."

[Gave her the account number, confirmation stuff...]

"Mr. F___, may I ask why you're choosing to close this account today?"

"Yes, I hate you. Not you personally of course, but I hate your company."

"I don't seem to have that on my list of reasons for canceling..."

"That's surprising. I know lots and lots of people who hate you. I'd think that would've made it into your list by now.

"No, it hasn't."

"Well, how about 'I'm tired of going into your branch and standing in line for an hour waiting for the single open window, while watching five tellers and a manager stand around doing nothing.'?"

"No, I don't have that, either."

"How about, 'I'm tired of receiving incorrect bills, then having to argue with you about late fees that by your own admission should never have been assessed in the first place'?"

"No, that's not here either."

"Did we try 'I hate you'?"

"Yes, don't worry about it, Mr. F___, I'll put something in."

"Thanks."
